South African gospel group Omega Circle has released a heartfelt new EP, “Worship Songs I Could Have Sang With My Mother,” a deeply personal project reflecting on loss, faith, and the enduring connection between a child and a mother.
The EP was inspired by the songwriter’s reflection on losing his mother, an experience he describes as life-altering. “Losing a mother is perhaps one of the hardest things anyone can go through,” he explains. “It shakes your foundation and challenges your trust in the world. But in that space of loss, I found myself leaning on God and trusting Him to guide me forward.”
Central to the EP is the theme of trust, captured in the phrase “Ndithembe kuwe,” meaning “I trust in You.” These words echo through the songs, emphasizing the spiritual journey that runs throughout the project.
The inspiration for the EP came unexpectedly. One February morning, feeling uninspired and distant from music, the songwriter realized that the year marked 20 years since his mother passed away. That moment sparked a wave of creativity, leading him to write songs he imagined he and his mother might have sung together — perhaps even with the grandchildren she never met.
The songs were born in quiet, reflective moments — some in the early hours of the morning, others during brief, spontaneous flashes of inspiration. Every track was written specifically for this project, except for a reimagined version of Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika, which opens the EP and sets the tone for the worshipful journey that follows.
“This EP is a tribute to the woman who taught me how to love myself and how to love God,” the group says. “Worship music becomes a bridge, connecting us to the warmth and love we can no longer experience in the physical world.”
“Worship Songs I Could Have Sang With My Mother” is now available on all major streaming platforms, offering listeners a space to reflect, heal, and reconnect with faith through music.
