On Thursday Johannesburg’s trendy Maboneng was buzzing with anticipation for a Stylin’ Dredz launch that has had the creative fraternity in baited breath for weeks. The occasion? The reveal of 6 individuals who have curated colourful careers that celebrate their unique identities and creativity. Rooftop hot spot the Living Room played host to a stylish crowd of industry fashionistas, creatives and artists- all of them gathered to celebrate their peers and find out more about a new campaign called the Creative Conquerors.
Who are the Creative Conquerors? They are rebellious, they are expressive, they are unique and they don’t conform to norms.
Introducing the Creative Conquerors
Lufuno Sathekge: A fashion blogger and head stylist to the stars. Her passion for beautifully presented aesthetics has sparked a passion within to want to change the world one well-dressed and styled person at a time.
Lady X: A record label owner and vocally talented musician on a musical journey infusing afro soul and tribal, soulful and afro house.
Oscar Ncube: The founder of Dry bone Co., a clothing/lifestyle brand established in 2018. The brand product categories include leather jackets, dresses, t-shirts and accessories.
Doowap: A graduate, stylist, hair artist, public figure and live mix deejay that dabbles in hip-hop, trap, grime, gqom and bass.
David Tshabalala: A designer, illustrator and business founder of Suketchi Branding + Design. He fluidly manoeuvres between the print and digital worlds and has created a name for himself through strategic social media marketing.
Leeroy Jason: Photographer and avid traveller, with a natural instinct for visually telling and artistically documenting (South) African stories.
The Creative Conquerors took media and industry peers through a sneak peek of their creative showcase, which is scheduled for 5 July. The event will be a gallery styled showcase of their journey’s and interpretation of life as a dreadlocked unconventional creative.
“Stylin’ Dredz is an iconic staple in South African homes and has, for decades, been the trusted household favourite for those who wish to style hair in trendy twists or locks. This year, new life has been breathed into the brand with a campaign that celebrates the essence of what Stylin’ Dredz stands for. We’re about personal expression, individuality, choices and style. All these guys have crafted a career in the creative space and conquered the confines of conformation,” commented Stylin’ Dredz Brand Manager, Tumiso Mathebula.
In attendance at the launch were fellow industry creatives such as actor, producer Thapelo Mokoena, presenter Thando Thabethe and style therapist Kwena Baloyi. The final by invite only showcase will take place on 5 July.
